Slim Jim Original Beef Jerky
In the Package
There's not really much to be discerned from looking at the package. The jerky looks like it might be dry. It doesn't appear to be oily at all. There are no visible spices on the jerky.
The Jerky
My first thought after tasting the jerky is that the flavor isn't very strong. The primary flavor I can taste is salt which isn't necessarily a bad thing since I like a salty jerky but this is not a salty jerky. There's not really any aftertaste to the jerky. After it's chewed up and swallowed, it's gone.
When I put my nose in the bag, there's a real strong soy smell as opposed to any kind of spices or other flavorings.
The texture is not soft but not extremely hard either. For me it chews well. I like it.
The size of the pieces is nice. They're pretty consistent with that of other jerky products in this size bag.
There's no oily residue from the jerky. It's eats quite neatly. You don't have to wipe your hands at all. Since there aren't any spices on the meat, there aren't little bits and pieces falling off as you eat it.
Spices
Beef, Water, Salt, Corn Syrup Solids, Paprika, Hydrolyzed Corn, Soy, Wheat Proteins
If you smell the jerky, you mostly smell a strong soy smell. The primary flavor in the taste is salt. I got some pieces with a very slight spiciness to them which must be the paprika since there's no pepper in the ingredients.
