Kroger Original Beef Jerky

I've seen this jerky a few times before in Kroger but I've never wanted to try it. My experience with store brands has been less than satisfactory. I decided today to go ahead and try it for this review.

In the Package

Looking at the package the jerky appears to be dry. The package states that the product is made from solid strips of beef.

The Jerky

The jerky is dryer than some other brands but certainly not brittle. It's not oily. Even when squeezed between the fingers, there's very little oil residue.

I was quite surprised by the taste. It has a flavor that reminds me of Jack Links but not quite as defined. The primary taste flavor that I get from this jerky is sweet even though it's not labeled as such. I like it.

Chewing the jerky is fairly easy but some pieces were pretty tough. If you have sensitive teeth or are used to really tender jerkies, you might want to avoid this one.

Spices

Sugar, Salt, Garlic Powder, Black Pepper Powder, Apple Cider Vinegar.

As you can see from the ingredients list, there aren't a whole lot of spices here. Fewer spices is a good thing in some cases. Here it makes for a nice basic "original" jerky.
